Hotel Safety for Women: Two Popular
Types of Hotel Door Stoppers

When it comes to staying safe in hotels, we all want to have some peace of mind.
So, let's talk about a handy tool that gives us an extra boost of security – portable door stoppers!

These stoppers can make a real difference in keeping us safe during our travels.

Door Stoppers that Go Under the Door:

One of the most common types of door stoppers used for hotel safety is the one that goes directly under the door. These door stoppers are shaped like wedges and designed to be placed at the bottom of the hotel room door. When someone tries to open the door from the outside (ex. trying to come into your room from hotel hallway) the stopper prevents the door from opening more than an inch or so.
They look like these:

These wedge-shaped door stoppers are typically compact, lightweight, and easy to carry, making them ideal for travelers. Their effectiveness lies in their simplicity – just a small device that provides an added layer of protection, giving you peace of mind during your hotel stay. Some of them, like the one above, actually have an alarm feature as well. You can generally set the sensitivity on the stopper from low to high, so you can make sure it doesn't accidentally go off because of someone stomping down the hallway. When the alarm does sound - those alarms are LOUD! The intent is to scare away the attacker with noise. No robber wants to get caught by multiple people coming out of their hotel rooms looking around as to where the sound is coming from...so the robber would probably leave quickly in order to avoid that type of confrontation.

Door Stoppers that Go Under the Handle:

The second type of door stopper commonly used for hotel safety is the one that goes under the door handle. This type is slightly different in design but just as effective. Instead of being placed under the door, it is placed on the handle from the inside of the room. Once in position, it prevents the door handle from turning or being pushed down, effectively keeping the door securely closed.

These handle stoppers are also compact and portable, generally having the ability to fold in half, making them easy to carry in your bag.
We recommend the one above.

What's also neat about the door handle door stoppers is that they usually work with sliding doors as well! Look at the photo below.

Both types of door stoppers serve the same purpose – to enhance the security of your hotel room. They act as a deterrent to unauthorized access and can provide an extra layer of protection against potential intruders. It makes the person staying in the room feel much safer because, well, they are safer with the door stopper than without one.

If you want to be ultra-prepared, you can bring both kinds. When you get into your hotel room, take a moment to assess the door and the type of stopper that will work best. Choose the appropriate door stopper and position it correctly to ensure it functions effectively. Without knowing how to place a stopper properly - you risk it not working at all.

In addition to the door stopper, we recommend always making use of the available safety features in your hotel room, such as deadbolts, security chains, and peepholes. Never open the door to strangers or unexpected visitors regardless of their reasoning. Be vigilant about your surroundings and carry other protection tools if possible.

By being prepared and taking proactive steps to ensure your safety,
you can enjoy your travels with confidence and have a worry-free stay at your hotel.

Stay safe and have a fantastic time exploring new places! Happy travels!
